Leadership Development Programs

 PILA’s leadership development programs support organizations in developing immigrant leaders to catalyze concrete change in their communities. Our programs connect diverse individuals and organizations to a broader movement for social justice.

Leadership Development Training Series (LDTS)
The LDTS is a year-long series for key staff and selected community leaders from diverse immigrant-serving organizations in the Bay Area.  Over the course of a year, LDTS builds the capacity of partners to develop immigrant leadership in their communities.  The program offers:

  • Eight full-day training and peer learning sessions;
  • A train-the-trainer approach and a toolbox of multilingual leadership development materials and curricula. Participants take the modeled techniques, tools and training back to their organizations and communities;
  • Peer-learning opportunities to share successful strategies;
  • 12-month leadership development workplans that are developed, implemented and documented by each partner organization. The workplans guide leadership development and serve as the basis for ongoing reflection, peer learning and evaluation;
  • Technical assistance and coaching to support partner organizations in realizing workplan objectives;
  • Access to an organizational stipend to support participation in the program
  • Two levels of training that are designed for varied levels of experience of emerging community leaders and staff;
  • Language accessibility for Spanish and Cantonese speakers – all training sessions simultaneously interpreted and with written translated materials and visuals;
  • Executive Director roundtable to build commitment and a concrete action plan to sustain leadership development in partner organizations after the LDTS is over.

We are currently running our third year-long Leadership development program. Over the next year we will be compiling and sharing key lessons, stories and multilingual tools from our leadership development programs.

"LDTS is making it possible to shift from solely providing services to incorporating organizing and leadership developement.”

Leadership Development Training Series – “senior track” program

This year-long program runs concurrent with the LDTS to support the ongoing learning and cross ethnic relationship building among our more advanced partners.  The “senior” track of the LDTS combines co-training and peer learning. In the 2006 LDTS, participants attended two peer learning sessions on organizational development topics they collectively identified. They also collaborated with the PILA team to co-train specific topics of the core LDTS program based on individual senior partners’ area of expertise.
